Simplify with a Slow-Cooker

If you follow my daily Facebook posts you will know that I talk about using my crockpot and how helpful it is. Today I’m going to delve into that a little more. Up until now I would only use my slow-cooker two (maybe three) times a year. But I must say, thanks to Facebook and Pinterest I’ve already used it three times this week. The recipes are never ending, fun and full of variety.

I admit that I used to only use it for chili or a big piece of meat with potatoes and a hearty vegetable and a tomato-based broth. I’ve learned a lot! I recently made a breakfast casserole that included turkey bacon, home style hash browns, eggs and cheese. I pre-layered the ingredients in advance, then added the egg mixture before turning on the crockpot and going to bed. My whole family loved waking up to this yummy breakfast. Everyone I shared this with was amazed that it was a crockpot meal.

Another fun thing is, having a little girl who is an absolute Macaroni-and-Cheese addict I was able to find a recipe for her and made it in the crockpot. The best part was she couldn’t get enough of it. Here is the recipe to try. The versatility of this one-pot-wonder is amazing. Healthy soups and desserts are only a couple more specialties it provides.

I must say my favorite thing this mini kitchen assistant can do is take a large load off my shoulders. Like most of us, I am a very busy working mom and much of my time is making sure I’m at meetings, practices, and classes on time. Just knowing that dinner is cooking provides one less stress in my life.

What’s your favorite slow-cooker recipe?  Share it here in the comments section or on our Facebook page!

  1. Awesome! I am new as well and TOTALLY loving it. If you join WordPress you can flloow anyone on WordPress pretty easily when you login and view another person’s WordPress blog, there’ll be a +Follow button at the top of the page. But if you’re not on WordPress (it doesn’t look like you are but I could be wrong!!) then most blogs have a way to flloow via email. For example, mine is at the very bottom of my homepage when you scroll to the bottom there’s a button to Follow Blog via Email . Hope that helps!!!

  2. I know exactly what you mean about the slow cokeor and making time to tend children. Not that I use a slow-cokeor, but on the 3days a week I have to make dinner for the family, I like to put everything on the hob and leave it to simmer while I beat the kids… er.. did I say kids, I meant eggs of course. ;-) I’ll mention this in my weekly blog roundup… it goes well with news about 3 new NZ beers.
